Many of our commercial customers will compare our Solid Surface products with other surfacing options. To be honest, initial material costs of solid surface are often higher than lesser-performing surfaces. When faced with a perceived cost vs. performance choice, cost often wins. However, what is the true cost of these surfaces?


1. Transolid Solid Surface reduces cleaning time by 50%. How much money does that translate to over one month, one year, or 10 years?

 

2. How much time and resources (including administrative and labor) are put into work orders for re-grouting, tile repair, and ineffectual caulking in one month, one year, or 10 years?

While initial, short-term costs of other surfaces may be lower, the hidden costs of renovation and long-term costs of maintenance and repair reveal other surfaces to be more costly than Transolid Solid Surface. When analyzing the long-term expenses, Transolid is the most cost-effective solution.

 

Maintenance Cost: Tile Grout must be sealed regularly to maintain effectiveness. Terrazzo will develop pitting if water drips on it continuously and must be repaired with grout, which can crack and fall out. On average, maintenance costs for Solid Surface are less than half of those for tile.


Demolition/Renovation Cost: Tile and terrazzo installation requires removal of old tile or other existing material. Transolid Solid Surface can be installed over the top of existing materials.

 

Repair Cost: Tile grout sealants eventually break down and grout begins absorbing water. Expensive epoxy treatments are required to seal out water. Showers must be taken off-line and specific moisture levels achieved for new epoxy/sealant to be under warranty. Such moisture levels are often impossible to attain, rendering warranties invalid. Acrylic pans are flimsy and crack easily under pressure. Solid surface is homogenous, so stains and scratches can be easily repaired.

 

Long-Term Maintenance Cost: Terrazzo requires advanced re-treatments of epoxy in which the shower must be taken off-line. Epoxy emits harmful VOCs. Cultured marble requires pressure washing to remove stains and mildew. Solid Surface requires simple re-caulking as necessary.

 

Warranty: Tile warranties average around 1 year. Transolid® Solid Surface warranty is for 10 years.
